Barra Grande, Bahia
But for travelers looking beyond the Big Cities, the Huff Post suggests "27 Breathtaking Places" --- and we're happy to see that both Barra Grande and Itacaré make the cut.
Barra Grande is the little village with sandy roads on the very tip of the Maraú Peninsula, straddling the Atlantic Ocean and Bahia de Camamu. On the beach side, waves crash outside the protected coral lagoons; on the bay side, gentle shores are great for relaxing sunsets . It is a quaint and quiet fishing village, a true time capsule. It is a port of entry by boat for arrivals into the Peninsula de Maraú (from the town of Camamu, across the bay).
Itacaré is a more bubbly beach town on the shores of a large river, just to the south of the peninsula. It is ideal for nature lovers, surfers, and everyone who wants to see rare Atlantic Rainforest right on the coast, with measured amounts of hustle-bustle during the evenings.
A snippet of the article is below, which also featured the two photos included here.
