Nikki Haley’s performance in the state’s Republican primary on Tuesday is the only thing standing in the way of a Biden-Trump rematch. Photograph by Adam Glanzman / The Washington Post / Getty There’s an adage that “Iowa picks corn and New Hampshire picks Presidents.” Recently, Nikki Haley offered her own spin on the idea, telling New Hampshire voters, “You know Iowa starts it. You know that you correct it.” Yet polls suggest that today’s primary in the Granite State may be less a contest than a coronation of Donald Trump within the Republican Party. Eren Orbey reports from New Hampshire, where one voter noted, of the former President, “Whatever happens to him, and whatever he does, it doesn’t seem to matter. People just viscerally love him.” Another voter, rating the chances of halting Trump’s momentum as low, said, “This seems like the last chance to do something.” Support The New Yorker’s award-winning journalism.
